Honolulu Academy of Arts

The Honolulu Academy of Arts was founded in 1927 by Anna Rice Cooke, a woman born into a prominent missionary family on O‘ahu in 1853. Growing up in a home that appreciated the arts, she went on to marry Charles Montague Cooke, also of a prominent missionary family, and the two settled in Honolulu. In 1882, they built a home on Beretania Street, on the site that would become home to the museum.http://honolulumuseum.org/

as the City grows

As the city grows, land values increase, often resulting in urban sprawl. Rethinking the street as potential build-able space allows the traditional urban fabric to be redirected. Rem Koolhaas argued that the invention of the elevator allowed urban space to exist on a new vertical axis, what leads us to a possible  re-conception of the street allow for mobility in multiple axes...http://www.evolo.us/architecture/beyond-the-street-gsapp/

biological and Non-Biological systems

The material and functional hybridisation of biological and non-biological systems has been explored in an increasingly diverse manner in art and film, having its most extreme expression in a series of animal-like objects that are difficult to classify. This is due to their formal and material character, the complexion of skin, as well as their status as ‘object-beings’1 and the manner in which these establish a new relationship with the human body. David Cronenberg’s movie eXistenZ (1999)2 and the weird game-pods featured in it, are a pivotal example of such hybridisation, requiring a more careful examination…

Right-Angled Articulation

The Showroom for Nanotechnology is part of HENN’s Nanopolis Masterplan in Suzhou, China. Visitors and employees to the Technology Park can explore the different areas of application of nanotechnology over 1300 m² of exhibition space. Standing on a central square and characterized by its dynamic shape, the pavilion creates an intentional contrast to the otherwise strongly right-angled articulation and design of the surrounding architecture.http://www.evolo.us/architecture/the-showroom-for-nanotechnology-henn-architects/

Marble Institute of America

The inaugural year of MIA chapters boasted two important milestones; the formation of MIA chapters in New York and Toronto. Each chapter has met the requirement of having 20 members and both are in the process of finalizing their 2014 schedules. Here is a quick review of the chapter program's 2013 accomplishments:
5 Educational Events across the 2 cities
Over 150 participants attended events over 2 cities
Over 50 new member companies registered in the 2 chapters
Next year, programming will be ramped up in each city as the New York and Toronto Chapters drive toward their mission of educating stone industry professionals with quarterly educational programming...

so Hard, so Earthly

Granite is the rock most often quarried as a "dimension stone" (a natural rock material that has been cut into blocks or slabs of specific length, width and thickness). Granite is hard enough to resist most abrasion, strong enough to bear significant weight, inert enough to resist weathering and it accepts a brilliant polish. These characteristics make it a very desirable and useful dimension stone.

Co-Evolutionary Process

Technology and society are co-evolutionary processes. As members of the creative vanguard of society, architects and designers are in the position to influence the direction of technology through their work. Drones, like any technology, are not inherently good or evil, but can be purposed for both good and evil ends. This project was undertaken in part to show one of the many peaceful applications which drone technology can be applied.

the City, the Chaos

The city is often depicted as a sort of self-organizing chaos. This collection of essays, edited by Pier Vittorio Aureli, makes the case for the opposite hypothesis: The city is always the result of political intention, often in the form of specific architectural projects. Cities are shaped not only by material forces, but also by cultural and didactic visions. This thesis is substantiated by eight thoroughly researched essays scrutinizing a fascinating line-up of urban conditions across more than two thousands years of history: from the political theology of the Islamic city to the political economy of Renaissance architecture...

Rewilding Environment

Walk on the Wild Side: Rewilding our environment would take us back to a healthier balance, restoring lost natural food chains
Have you ever wondered why most deciduous trees can resprout from wherever the trunk is broken? How they can withstand the extraordinary amount of damage done to them − hacking, splitting, twisting, trampling − when a hedge is laid? Why understorey trees such as holly and box are so much stronger and hardier than canopy trees like oak and beech, even though they carry less weight and are subject to lower shear forces from the wind?

References to the Corinth Canal are usually associated with the section where the National Road is passing through, as it is the only active part of the area while the rest remains almost inactive. The few activities that take place seem to ignore their direct relationship to the Canal.
