Xiamen Stone Fair with new halls

Visitors of this year’s Xiamen Stone Fair (March 06-09, 2016) will find the ring completed: construction works which had started already during last year’s fair and had occupied the large square in front of the main hall with its shape of an oversized bowl have now been finished. Four new halls will give the fair a total of 180,000 m² which is 14,000 more then in 2014.

Pedestrian

Architects of the refurbished Bahnhofstraße leading to Böblingen’s main train station, fell back on tradition: light and stone are the main elements. Building material would be a free used of the modern parameters: the artificial lighting above the pedestrian zone illuminates the imported granite and brings out the distinguishing array of stone colors.
To nip the notion in the bud: these are not stone types imported from Asia. We are talking about Spanish and Portuguese products. Stuttgarter Zeitung reports that the paving set off a lengthy debate at the end of which the city decided against „cheap imports from countries working with child labor and wage dumping“.

Perspective View of ‘Flexion' kinetic mechanism

The AA Athens Visiting School research was initiated by revisiting the Gestalt principles. The basic design principles of this theory like the perception of space, form, colour, and transparency, the individual and holistic perception of multiple elements were used as the main data that were evaluated in the work of the student groups. Throughout the program various parametric software were taught including Grasshopper for McNeel Rhinoceros, the open-source scripting platform Processing, and open-source electronic platform Arduino, while the participants were introduced to the workflow between analogue and digital methodologies of the architectural discipline. As integral part of the design methodology, the parametric tools used in the AA Athens Visiting School enabled the designers to evolve beyond the linear approach and towards real-time simulation and adaptation of form. This allowed for a more dynamic presentation of the work by the design teams which managed to effectively present through their proposals how various design elements were being altered in time as the prototype reacted to different external stimuli.

The bias of SO/AP agency was to design an urban pattern generated by tools for parametric programming. The urban grid, the study of heights and typology of housing are the optimized results from simulations between a 3D parametric design software, and software for environmental analysis.
All data as solar radiation, natural lighting condition, thermal performance and water consumption have been integrated to the urban design from the beginning. In order to benefit of the ski lift both in summer and winter, the city is implanted at the foot of the skiing plateau and extends westward into the hillside in order to preserve as much plain in its natural states as possible. As this plain is serviced at is two end points, the projects also plan to build two gateway permitting simultaneous the access and the storage of the goods without having to access to the city.

the Polititcs of a Garden

Since ages, in all cultures of the world, the design and care of the grounds has been established as a form of art like any other. There is no better example to illustrate the dominion of man over nature from an artistic perspective. However, it is worth noting that since the emergence of conceptual art in the Western art scene of the 60s gardening has crossed the border that separated it from the sphere of visual arts. Interest in growing plants, as happened with many other non-mainstream art practice actions, joined the concept “art is life” and has since undergone an interesting evolution in its approach.

a sense of security and reliability

People come and go but stone endures. Pity that after some time only the marks of tools bear witness to the stone’s heritage and effort invested in working it but offer little information on the people involved. But there are documents revealing some information at least of commercial activity of the past: at Poznań’s „Stone“ Trade Fair (held from November 18th to 21st 2015) shares and bonds of natural stone producing companies of two centuries were on display.

As the result of a joint decision by the fair’s honorary sponsors, BIV (Association of German Stonemasons) and DNV (German Natural Stone Association), the advisory board of Stone+tec and the organizer, NürnbergMesse GmbH, the next Stone+tec Trade Fair will take place in 2018 (not in 2017, as originally planed, when will be held the Bau architectural fair in Munich). In response to the express preference of many exhibitors, visitors and professional associations, the trade Nuremberg fair, which takes place every two years, will be held in even years in future.
