re New the Prison

The key issue of this diploma thesis is the prison system. The aim of this thesis is to propose a new scheme that includes and redefines the terms Nature, Education and Work within the design, three concepts that are to be used as tools that aid the correction and synergy needed for a smoother reintegration of inmates back into society.

Max Zorn interview on Design Boom

MZ: I make art with packing tape, the same kind you might use on boxes when you’re sending a package in the mail or moving home. it may sound weird to start my resume with a sentence like that, but that’s what I do for a living. yet, it was a coincidence that I ended up as an artist at all. it all started with the idea to use street lamps as an urban gallery for street art. I played around with different materials and detected the luminescent qualities of brown packing tape, but it was rather accidentally. when I saw the sepia glow of the first artwork made of tape on a street lamp in amsterdam, that’s when I knew that this technique could work and had a lot of potential for experimentation...

The urban landscape for man "in flight."

In a first reading, we can understand the relationship developed by the user and the urban landscape. According to Takis Zenetos, the relationship of the user with the landscape can be described through three modern versions of the body. The 'hunched' man, the 'upright' man, the 'in-flight' man. The designs of the paving, the lines on the surface of the earth, the narrow paths and terraces can be read and experienced with eyes turned towards the earth.

Cities are Alive

In certain parts of the world, the founding of new towns and extensive urban development are still going ahead rapidly at the beginning of the twenty-first century. In Europe, on the other hand, which already has a high degree of urbanization, more cautious interventions into the urban structure are required. By means of both permanent and temporary interventions, attempts are being made to meet the complex requirements of a changing modern society. The interdisciplinary cooperation of partners from different fields such as culture, architecture, and economics, and the participation and initiatives of citizens play an important role in this.

Into Tree Architecture

These trees are between life and death. Some of them are simply hibernating while others are victimised by arson, thunderbolts, or drought. They depict life and death through nature.
Even though black dominates, light as background is what shapes the works. The third dimension comes in and out. Balance, symmetry, texture and detail are their emphasised features.

Excellent Stone Ideas...

Greek Stonegroup International Company was presented with Marmomacc’s Best Communicator Award for its exhibit-stand design „12 Mythic Marbles“ – and rightly so, since the company had linked natural stone with ancient Greek mythology and done so with a very high standard of craftsmanship. The design of the stand was most unusual indeed.

a homage to the city’s industrial legacy...

Anagenesis examines the notion of a post-industrial building envelope that engages natural phenomena as a productive force. The investigation, carried out by Hseng Tai Lintner at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, explores the interrelationship between the natural and the manufactured and focuses on the use of bioluminescence, a naturally occurring form of chemiluminescence that makes organisms like fireflies and jellyfish glow, to produce ambient lighting for the interior.
