Bread Architecture

An old railway station in Los Altos, California, has been transformed into this exquisite new bakery and café by local entrepreneur Rie Rubin, with the help of the creative people at San Francisco-based design agency Character. Named Voyageur du Temps, which means time traveler in French, the café seeks to preserve the time-honoured art of baking by adding a dash of contemporary life to it. Here you will find freshly baked artisan breads and pastries, as well as a variety of courses that give a playful wink to continental breakfast staples like the Croque Monsieur and crepes with fresh fruit

Open Air Wine House

7004 house, designed by Daniel Caven, is based upon using natural materials as structural components, the 7004 house is an open air wine house (3 seasons pavilion). Literally taking root, the site is located in the midwest overlooking a private client’s vineyard. The creation of the house incorporates autonomous natural objects as primitive growths within oriented patterns -allowing nature to overtake structural molds. The molds were based around generations and iterations of natural tree structures, then transformed to structural flow lines for the shell and floors of the house. Allowing for overgrowth to the structures.

Pictographic Modern Hieroglyphs

Morlock’s Mural is a perfect tonic for an ailing arts community.  Her symbolic language is a playful, hypnotic narrative on life, love, gender and strength representing modern Hieroglyphs and a constellation of mixed media sculptures..  Orion, Anubis, Hercules, and Cleopatra are represented along with many of the original sketches and are for sale...

Frescoes...more visible

In the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel new LED-lighting has made frescoes more prominently visible. Also a new ventilation system now protects art work from excessive humidity introduced by some 6 million visitors each year. Michelangelo’s paintings depict numerous scenes according to the old testament some of which contain replicas of marble...

to Dive across

The area we chose for our study about the diving center is Kavala. It is a coastal town in Northeastern Greece, located on the bay of Kavala prefecture.
An important reason for choosing Kavala was the fact that the town is only 18 miles away from Thasos.  Thasos has not only a wonderful coastline, but also a wonderful undersea world, suitable for diving.
The plot is in southern Kavala, right across the port. In fact, it is a dock, on which, at the present time, there are a coffee house, a small place used by those that are interested in diving and the Nautical Club of Kavala, which owns most of the ships that dock there. The remaining area is used by locals as a parking lot.

Modern ideas for the principle of the stone arch

Within the stone triangle 2 steel cables begin at the base, go through the cope stone and run back down to the base, outside the stone. They end in the floor of the 2nd story where they are firmly anchored.

According to the prospectus

An increasing number of countries are going to considerable lengths to interest producers, designers and architects for their material. One unusual method had been initiated by the trade journal Nowy Kamieniarz and the „Stone“ Trade Fair, held in Poznań Nov. 26th to 29th 2014. The core of the idea was a workshop held during two days of the fair, at the end of which students were required to present their drafts in product design and architecture.

Birds, mammals and reptiles ...

If you are an artist interested in how power and politics manifest through art and design, you’ll inevitably find yourself investigating India and its history at some point, just as London-based photographer Karen Knorr recently did. Well read, politically sensitive and a conceptual art-savvy photographer, Knorr has travelled across Northern India since 2008, photographing the interiors of the land’s opulent and colourful old palaces, temples and forts with a large format Sinar camera (in a way that inevitably reminds of Robert Polidori’s Versailles project and of course the oeuvre of Massimo Listri).

Algorithms can optimize performance criteria

A sleek, star-kissing building is no longer enough to dazzle clients and public officials. Towers in the 21st century are redefining themselves as high-performance machines, harvesting energy rather than guzzling it. Sustainability is big business, and some observers point to this as the Performative Age, in which big data and big software can track and analyze how well each square inch of a building pushes environmental, structural, and material standards of excellence to new heights. Literally.

Anatomy of a Building

In 1964 Sir Denys Lasdun (1914–2001) – the controversial pioneer of modern British architecture – created a radical new headquarters for the 500 year old Royal College of Physicians in a quiet corner of Regent's Park.
Lasdun's Grade I listed masterpiece holds an ancient library, a 17th-century oak panelled room, a marble portrait gallery and ceremonial hall in cutting-edge concrete and glass.

Reaching the wanderer's disposition into the Old Town of Chania

After looking for those notions which connect people, the city and their movement in it, we clarified the notion "wanderer", while exploring congnate notions such as: stroller, excursionist, flaneur, to wander,  wandering. Through this research we decided to define the notion "wanderer" as someone walking without a cause; someone without a determined course or someone who diverted from it.  The wanderer observes the urban scenery, thoroughly or not. Sometimes, he/she remains distant, while others he/she participates in what happens around.  His/her movement is influenced by the city's characteristics, such as the architecture, the history, the decoration, the scenery, the light, the sounds, the climate, people, the textures etc.  Additionally, the wanderer's phychology, such as the desires, the disposition, the feelings and the needs, are crucial.

Walking Quarries

The walk of the senses serves two purposes : the enhancement of the experience we are currently having of this surreal landscape and the emergence of the scenic view of the city, but also the inner workings of the quarry. The concept behind the design of the course of this walk is based on leveling the grounds slope, sometimes just touching it and other times going through it, keeping it intact at the same time, whenever is possible.

the Design of Scarcity

As growth was the defining condition of the 20th century, so scarcity is set to define the 21st. Already it pervades political discourse and shapes our reading of the economy and the environment. But scarcity is not just the inevitable result of growth and resource exploitation. Scarcity is constructed daily through the creation of desire, it is designed.
