Cleanness vs. Dirtiness

The solid, rigid material has been the leading role in architecture industry for hundred years, but in this project this definition of architectural material has been changed. In this case, the soft, flexible rubber has been applied into the structure system, interior space and architectural organization. The rigid metal, concrete and glass play the roles as molds to shape the deformable rubber. This combination makes a brand-new relationship between these materials and come out becomes the new visuality of spaces and provides a new sensing experience for the users.

Memory of the Planet

The façade of the building is clad in massive blocks of yellow travertine provided by Haz Marble Company of Turkey. Some 7,500 m² were needed in thicknesses of 10 to 22 cm and weighing some 350 to 1,000 kg each to complete the job.
The raw front, what with its jut-outs and recessions, gives the building a rugged appearance almost as if one was standing in front of a rock in the middle of the desert.

Brussels: Eight ground Installations

The purpose of this study, which revolves around the public space of Brussels, is the realization of Eight Installations, whose aim is to aesthetically transcend the essence of the city to the individual through the everyday wanderings. The conception of the project is rooted in the observations of the human body, on how movement is affected by terrains of different quality, and the various transitions.

Water, the silent currency of universe

Water availability in Somalia is naturally climatic issue. With extremely low rainfall and much higher potential evaporation, the country is characterized as water-scarce. Only 30% of Somalis have access to safe water, leading to increased risk of food shortage, social conflict, stress to economic growth, and poor standards of living.

an Architectural Enclosure

The challenge of this project designed by Zelig Fok at the Savannah College of Art and Design was to design a boutique and showroom for the Japanese fashion label Comme des Garçons in Tokyo’s Aoyama shopping district. Architecture and fashion share a dedication to experimental design as well as the ability to question customary enclosure/dress, prescribed aesthetics, and notion of beauty. Collections by the fashion designer were studied, particularly where padded figures were stuffed beneath or sewn into the lining of garments.

The Image of Sculpture

Let’s be entirely honest, here: our aesthetic experience of sculpture, of work that moves through our world in the time-space continuum of four experiential dimensions (one of time, and three of space), by and large has little to do with the experiential at all. It’s arguable that we rarely actually experience sculpture as it was intended to be.

the Living Rock

Dating thousands of years ago, rock-cut architecture – the practice of creating a structure by carving it out of solid natural rock was used for many significant religious monuments, temples and tombs. The rock-hewn church of Lalibela in Ethopia, the 1,500-tonnes unfinished Obelisk of Aswan in Egypt and the elaborate sandstone-carved treasury of Petra in Jordan are some of the ancient wonders of rock-cut architecture still standing today.

Diffused Boundaries

One’s identity within the city is determined by a relationship to public and private space. Where a person can go, what they can see, and what experiences a person has access to shapes the identity of the individual. Architectural language plays a crucial role in this identity. Diffused Boundaries aims to break down previously known thresholds in the city and affect change in the way people perceive, use, and experience space.
