The Winged Victory of Samothrace

In an era of skyscraper frenzy, where the world’s metropoles compete for the record of the tallest tower (with buildings as high as 1000 meters being reportedly under construction), a young businessman from Russia has envisioned a different kind of architectural landmark. 37-year-old Vasily Klyukin, founder of the successful Sovcombank and manager of the real estate fund K2H...http://www.yatzer.com/designing-legends-vasily-klyukin

Architecture is capturing Carbon...

Carbon capture is an emerging practice aimed at obtaining and containing greenhouse gases to mitigate their net availability in the atmosphere. However, existing carbon capture practices use the method of point capture, catching carbon gases at the source, requiring a significant initial investment in additional facilities, infrastructure, and maintenance of underground storage.http://www.evolo.us/competition/propagate-skyscraper-carbon-dioxide-structure/

Illustrations of imaginary buildings...

Italian architect and illustrator Federico Babina (who made some waves some months ago with his ‘Archiset’ series of illustrated interiors inspired by famous films) has recently unveiled a new project, this time taking a look at the connection between architecture and the visual arts. Titled ‘Archist’, the project comprises a series of illustrations of imaginary buildings inspired by famous works of art. Beginning with the question: what would a house designed by Dalí or a museum by Miró look like, the resulting images demonstrate what Federico Babina believes is the ''implicit partnership between Architecture and Art.''http://www.yatzer.com/archist-federico-babina

Reducing shapes to a minimum...

Some of his work is hollowed out leaving only an outer shell. He uses „the empty space as material“, according to John Bizas‘ web page. Decisive Moments

Los Angeles–based artist Soo Kim’s works Midnight Reykjavik 12 (pictured above) and (very softly) are in the current exhibition Decisive Moments: Photographs from the Collection of Cherye R. and James F. Pierce. The first is an intriguing scene of the Icelandic capital with pieces cut away from the photograph, the second an almost abstract construction set against an image of tree branches. She will talk about her work and process at the Honolulu Museum of Art Doris Duke Theatre on Monday, March 24 at 7pm.

Imagine...

Imagine high-end luxury toys: Lapicida company, British specialist in exclusive stone design, now produces facsimiles of automobiles in stone for their clients.
These are not just any cars, or the facsimile from 25,000£ (30,000 €, 41,000 US-$) might end up costing more than the original. These are scaled replicas of cherished vehicles – „the ultimate boy’s toy“, according to a press release.

Scenographic Spaces

What is it that makes cities thrive? What are the biggest drivers for success and prosperity in the city, the agents for change? Where does the real power and capital reside? People. Not individuals, not corporations but the connectedness of people. Cities wouldn’t exist were it not for the strength that comes from human collaboration and from that civilisation.http://www.newstatesman.com/culture/art-and-design/2012/07/if-these-walls-could-talk

My Way...

My way has been too long and too lonely,” Frank Lloyd Wright telegraphed Philip Johnson shortly before the 1932 opening of the Museum of Modern Art’s (MoMA) epochal International Style exhibit, in an unsuccessful attempt to withdraw from the show, “to make a belated bow to my people as a modern architect …http://www.architectmagazine.com/architects/outsider-architect-momas-frank-lloyd-wright-exhibit_o.aspx?dfpzone=general&utm_source=newsletter&utm_content=jump&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=ANW_031014&day=2014-03-10

Biomuseo by Frank Gehry

Panama’s Biomuseo, designed by Frank Gehry, is set to open its doors to the public, almost ten years after construction began. Since 2001, an international team of architects, designers, and members of the scientific community have been working on the design and development of the museum, which will be a gateway to new knowledge about the natural history of the isthmus and its biodiversity.

the Women who build the World

Architecture is stale, male and pale. It’s an easy taunt made easier by a convenient rhyme scheme that paints a dreary picture of a lofty profession dominated by white men. Debates about the exact nature of the gender imbalance have reverberated in the pages of the architecture press and studios of practice for decades and according to a recent survey by The Architects’ Journal nearly 80% of architects think there are too many men in the profession. http://www.architectural-review.com/home/international-womens-day-/

to architect Nabati Poetry

Nabati poetry has been a feature of life in the Arabian Peninsula since the 16th century. In certain eras, this poetry was the only record of historical events. Historians only know of these events because the Nabati poems have been passed down through generations. Nabati poetry shows the natural creativity of the Gulf's inhabitants and represents their roots in this land. It is their everyday dialect. A strong dialect, slightly removed from classical Arabic. It should be studied so that it may be preserved.
